Film descriptionUsing notes made by peasants in the mid-1930s, this propaganda documentary offers a truly moving and pitiful image of past peasant life. Now, ever since the working class came to power and took matters into its own hands, life has been completely transformed, with ownership of the land transferred to peasants. Munk shows the depressing past and the brilliant future using outtakes from several peasant diaries and their children who live in the bright, cheerful future. Use of two narrators, one for the diary fragments and another for the optimistic voice-over, further highlights the dichotomy. |
