The Extra Man, dir. S.S. Berman & R. PulciniThe Extra Man, dir. S.S. Berman & R. Pulcini

a panorama of contemporary American cinema, new feature films: ‘middle cinema’, films by renowned filmmakers, new talents, interesting phenomena

The opener of the Spectrum section will be Homewrecker by the brothers Brad and Todd Barnes, winner of the NEXT award at this year's Sundance Festival. The film is an astonishingly fresh twist on the romantic comedy formula. It easily overcomes the class and ethnic clichés the genre uses, and the authors manage to stitch together quite skillfully some elements that seem incompatible. As a result, the film never loses its tempo.

Some celebrities can also be seen in films included in this section. There is, for instance, Paul Dano (of Good Heart fame), cast as the main character Louis Ives in The Extra Man by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini. In the movie, the young dreamer Louis comes to NYC to find himself (as he puts it). He comes across Louis Henry, played by Kevin Kline, as well as the attractive Mary Powell (Katie Holmes).

The festival will also host the European premiere of the comedy horror Don't Go in the Woods by Vincent D'Onofrio, a well-know actor starring in many blockbusters (such as Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket or Barry Sonnefeld's Men in Black): five young men depart for the woods in order to work on some songs for their new record, away from the hustle and bustle. The band members start disappearing one by one in mysterious circumstances.

The films that will have their Polish premieres in the SPECTRUM and AMERICAN DOCS sections will take part in the competition; the audience will vote for the best picture in two categories: fiction and documentary.
