Miranda July
Born 1974, writer, actress, screenwriter, multimedia and performance artist, and composer. She wrote and acted in her first plays while still in high school in Berkeley, California. July’s performances were successful; she has been quoted as saying she has not worked a day job since she was 23 years old. In the latter half of the 1990s, July collected independent films produced by women to release as compilations on video cassettes. She has made numerous videos to her own music as well as producing film shorts to collect money for her feature-length debut. Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005) has shown at countless festivals and received numerous awards. July has often announced films in the pipeline, but become involved in other projects, e.g. publishing an award-winning book of short stories. She recently finished shooting her latest film, The Future.
