Darren Aronofsky
Born 1969 in Brooklyn, New York to an Orthodox Jewish family. Aronofsky studied anthropology and film at Harvard. His 1998 feature debut, Pi, received the Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and a sophomore effort, Requiem for a Dream, that confirmed his exceptional talent and placed him among the leading American filmmakers. Aronofsky’s next project turned into a production nightmare: The Fountain (2006) took five years to make, including casting changes and rewrites – ultimately, critics and audiences alike rejected the film. His next film, The Wrestler (2008) was well received throughout the world garnering the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
