Roman Polański
Born in 1933 in Paris, Polish director, screenwriter, and actor. He studied at the Łódź Film School, where he made Two Men and a Wardrobe. International acclaim came with the Oscar-nominated Knife in the Water (1962), Polański’s final film produced in Poland. His French and English productions include Repulsion and Cul de Sac, which he followed with Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown in Hollywood. After charges of statutory rape in 1978, Polański returned to Europe, where he continues to make films. Polański’s film The Pianist (2002) garnered him the Golden Palm in Cannes and an Oscar, while The Ghost Writer (2010) received the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
