Mobley, Samual Murkofsky Film descriptionOn June 28, 1969, New York police raided the Stonewall Inn, a Greenwich Village gay club. Though similar raids had occurred in the past, this time patrons and supporters countered with force. Soon, the Stonewall Uprising came to symbolize the fight for sexual minority rights in America. The first gay pride parade took place on the first anniversary of the Stonewall Inn events, leading to propagation of this form of public manifestation as an element in the civil rights struggle for the LGBT community throughout the world. The Stonewall Uprising sparked a movement that has finally reached Poland in the 21st century. The filmmakers interview eyewitnesses of those events, including a police officer involved. Shocking ‘educational’ films from the 1950s and 60s, which explain homosexuality to be a dangerous disease and label gays and lesbians degenerates and threats to society, provide a powerful counterpoint to the interviews.
