Film description

Two years after the adaptation of The Uneventful Story, the director returned to film, this time working on a historical novel by Władysław Terlecki entitled Pismak. The completed work premiered in October 1985, and is a story about Rafał, an author who spends several months imprisoned in a cell with Sykstus and a safebreaker. The three characters meet here and discuss various themes. But the most important scenes and statements are shown in this film in the dream sphere, which are mainly visions from the main character’s past. The feeling of a loss of contact with reality results from a constant struggle with his typhoid body. Visions experienced by Rafał concern his past and his writing, as he is another artist – a character in the filmmaker’s work. Although a weak author, as the title suggests, still Rafał is very aware of his lack of talent.

Write and Fight is another work by Has which touches on suffering, passing and death. But this is the first one that gives hope for recovery, revival and an overcoming of the crisis.
